MOUTHPIECE MUTE

Overview of Mute

The mute is used to quiet the sound of the mouthpiece's buzzing, while simultaneously providing a space for an in-house microphone to capture the audio from the mouthpiece.

Mute Disassembly

The mute was designed to be readily disassembled, in the event of a microphone repair or a cleaning. The following video demonstrates the process.

Design Choices

The mute consist of two layers of metal, the inner layer being brass and the outer layer being aluminum. The density of the metals, as well as the presence of two layers separated by air, ensure that the mouthpiece buzz is significantly muted. A cross-section of the current design is shown below.

A small piece of cotton is also placed in the inner chamber to prevent the mouthpiece air flow from striking the microphone.
